Intrawest’s Village at Mammoth Earns Prestigious ARDY Award From American Resort Development Association
June 28, 2004
Mammoth Lakes, Calif. –The American Resort Development Association has honored Intrawest's Village at Mammoth and its designer Callison Architecture with a 2004 ARDY award for resort architecture. The annual ARDY awards reward excellence and celebrate the resort development industry's highest achievers.
The Village was among four top new developments that were finalists in resort architecture -- Royal Pacific Resort, The Palm, and Phuket Beach Club. The Village at Mammoth and Callison Architecture took home the award after a panel of seven resort design professionals from across the nation judges each property on a number of criteria.
"The Village at Mammoth represents the best of collaboration between client and architect to design a new community that meets the needs of the town and resort visitor. We are very thrilled that other industry leaders recognized that effort," says Callison Principal Bill Gartz. "We also hope to exceed expectations with our collaboration on the next companion village, which will integrate with the existing resort."
The Village is the cornerstone of Project Sierra, Intrawest’s 10-year vision for the evolution of the region located approximately five hours from Southern California in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Architectural cues were drawn from Old World Europe while adapting to the natural views and beauty of the region. The buildings are designed as if they've been built at different times in history and display colorful exteriors with private balconies and landscaping that complements heavy timber accents and stone detailing. Year-round visitors to Mammoth Lakes enjoy newly constructed luxury accommodations, 32 stores, eateries and boutiques, special events and entertainment—all connected to the 3,500-acre mountain via the new 15-passenger express gondola.
The American Resort Development Association, which hosts the ARDYs, fosters and promotes the growth of the industry and serves its members through education, public relations, communications, legislative advocacy, membership development and ethics enforcement.
