Mountain Creek forges ahead with development plan launching 'Building C' project
November 09, 2006
Town Approves Three Buildings In Overall Village Plan
Vernon, N.J.– Showcasing continued commitment and forward progress, Mountain Creek announced today that it is moving ahead with plans for “Building C” after receiving preliminary approval for three separate projects on October 30th. ”Building C” is currently in the design and development stage but is expected to contain approximately 200 residential units and 25,000 square feet of operational and commercial space. “Building C” will replace the existing tent structures located beside The Appalachian, completing the slopeside neighborhood. Groundbreaking and construction start dates are still pending with a target launch date of late Winter/ Early Spring 2008.
“This is a tremendously exciting step for Mountain Creek and the Vernon community,” said Jeff Patterson, Director of Development at Mountain Creek. “The support of the Mayor, Township Manager, Council, and Planning Board has been instrumental in the process as we continue on our development path and forge ahead with our commitment to making Mountain Creek a world class resort.”
“I am very pleased and gratified to see the resort development at Mt. Creek moving forward, which in large part was due to the continuing cooperative relationship with the applicant,” said Janet Morrison, Mayor, Vernon Township. “These approvals move us further along to the Resort Village we’ve wanted to see in our town, something voters have consistently asked for in elections over the past 8 years. It was difficult, but we’ve managed to achieve the goal set several years ago: to increase density at the base of the mountain in order to preserve the top, and we’ve done so with a program that allows us to achieve an aesthetically beautiful treatment, manage traffic, and see increased commercial revenues."
MOUNTAIN CREEK BACKGROUND Mountain Creek boasts The Appalachian hotel/condominum property that is now open to lodging guests, offering numerous package programs including lodging and outdoor activities. The Appalachian features a total of 177 vacation homes across the two phases of the development. The 77 homes in the second and final phase are expected to be complete by winter. Designed in an Adirondack Grand Hotel motif, The Appalachian has furnished studio, one- and two-bedroom configurations. The slopeside property features ski-in/ski-out access, underground parking, meeting and conference space and a host of other amenities.
In addition to The Appalachian, Playground Destination Properties Inc. sold two stages of the popular Black Creek Sanctuary neighborhood, consisting of one-, two- and three-bedroom townhomes nestled in a serene, protected sanctuary in close proximity to the mountain. Playground Destination Properties Inc., the licensed broker handling the real estate sales and marketing for Mountain Creek, is now offering a third and final stage of this unique property.
Mountain Creek is uniquely positioned in the Hamburg Mountains less than 50 miles from New York City. The resort currently draws visitors from the entire tri-state region and will become THE city escape destination. While already recognized nationally for its outstanding snowboard and ski facilities, the resort has four-season appeal with year-round activities including New Jersey’s biggest water-park, extensive hiking and biking trails, and some of the world class East Coast golf courses nearby.
Mountain Creek’s 1,040 vertical feet, 46 trails and 11 lifts have received over $60 million in operational and on-hill improvements over the past four years. Repeatedly ranked #1 for accessibility by SKI magazine, Mountain Creek is considered one of the East Coast’s best facilities with the only Superpipe in the region built to Olympic specifications. The mountain was home this past winter to the 2006 Chevrolet U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix, where the Olympic snowboard team was named. With 170 skiable acres, Mountain Creek is also open seven nights a week until 10pm with more than 1,000 lights on all 46 trails and the tubing lanes. The mountain has North America’s only eight passenger open-air gondola and the most powerful snowmaking equipment in the region for a longer ski season for winter enthusiasts.
